Speaking of socialism, I think the Democrats are concerned more about optics with a real convention that with the spread of the Coronavirus. I think if they held the convention (and instituted safety guidelines for Covid), they're incredibly fearful of what 'rabble-rousing' Bernie fans would do at the convention.

I think Bernie fans still feel cheated (as they should) and they would certainly let that feeling be known at a standard convention. I mean, I paid close attention to the Democratic primaries, and Joe Biden was an absolutely terrible campaigner who generated little to no enthusiasm. Bernie had a grassroots campaign and real, serious, consolidated support. In fact, he probably had the most enthusiasm of any Dem candidate. Despite that, I never thought the Democratic Party would allow Bernie to be their nominee, I thought it more likely, if they wanted a 'moderate', they'd go with someone like Buttigieg - the guy was articulate, smart, and sharp as a tack on the debate stage. Granted, he was a little milquetoast in terms of personality, but he's miles ahead of Biden in terms of his ability to communicate and debate.

I don't really think Trump could debate well against either Sanders or Buttigieg.

No one shows up to cheer for Biden. If the Democratic base wants a socialist (or, rather a Democratic-Socialist) as their candidate, they should get it. Instead, we get a coordinated effort by the DNC to get most of the other candidates to drop out before Super Tuesday to prevent Bernie from winning delegates. Some of these candidates had great ideas that never really got airtime. For example, I'm not a big fan of Tom Steyer, but I wholeheartedly support his position on term limits (when he took that position, I knew he didn't have a snowball's chance in hell at winning the primary). I can't speak for other Democrats, but I think most of them are ready for real change. They don't want an old neo-liberal warmonger who can barely make it through a teleprompter speech. I'm tired and sick of having to vote for the 'lesser of two evils'. I want to vote for the 'greater of two goods'. Some day in the future maybe.
