Very few VPs ever become President. And the last occasion wasn't a flattering relationship - Bush basically wanted the least ambitious person in as VP so he would go uncontested. And Quayle fit the bill perfectly (pun not intended but was noticed, and went unedited).

The VP role has also changed dramatically. If the Democrats get mean, they could easily own the next 3 Administrations. It should have happened with Gore and Clinton, but with Trump, it's going to be hard to recover. Mostly because this wasn't just Trump (Congress couldn't pass the ACA repeal) but Trumps cult won't love another candidate as they love him. Despite how hard Tom Cotton is trying.
