Just to add to the gloom, there is mounting evidence that Herd Immunity doesn't make you immune: perhaps you can catch coronavirus as often as you can catch a cold

Coronavirus Reinfections Are Real but Very, Very Rare
They’re still not sure but it’s pointing to something like most people develop cellular memory that will go into action after the antibodies are gone. If it ends up bouncing around endlessly like the common cold most epidemiologists and virologists will be shocked.
But yes, herd immunity is the same as absolute defeat. It means the virus is finished doing everything it can do. That’s like if there’s a serial rapist in your community and the cops say our plan is to let him rape everyone he wants to because eventually he’ll stop. In other words, you’ve given up and don’t have a plan.
Of course if you create herd immunity with a vaccine that’s different.
It looks to me like North America, South America, Europe, and India and Japan are going old school herd immunity.
The rest of the world may have bought enough time to vaccinate if one is developed.
Australia and New Zealand and countries like Vietnam and China and all of Africa need to close their borders and go full early wuhan style at the point of a gun lockdowns or they will be where we are.
In Wuhan, China demonstrated to the world the proper measures to take. We ignored their example to the tune of one million deaths at present and this winter is going to rage.
We got 215,000 dead in America and it’s like hey let’s go to a baseball game.
