Absolutely. I remember there being this big deal on the Princeton campus when some band orchestrated a complete alternate score to Carl Dreyer's
Passion of Joan of Arc. Can't recall if they played it live or if it was recorded. But, yeah, it's certainly done with the classics.
Wasn't there a famous band redo of the Fritz Lang's
Metropolis score?
