Default Should Ferrets Be Allowed to Own Guns?

Inspired by jwb's thread "Should Felons Be Allowed to Own Guns?" I propose that this should be extended to our animal friends. Why should only humans be armed? Does not the second amendment extend to the animal kingdom? And if not, why not? Aren't animals people too?

Why should, for example, a human hunt a bear but that bear not be able to defend itself? Is it not more likely that less people would stalk grizzlies if they had an AK-47? Could not a gorilla better protect itself and its family from poachers if it owned an RPG? Is the idea of marmots and bush babies roaming around with Glocks at their hip something we should consider?

Mind you, I'm not so sure I want to face the possibility of being held up on the way to the shops by a squirrel with a 357 Magnum! "That's it, pretty boy: keep puttin' the nuts in the bag, nobody gets hurt. Don't give me a reason. You feelin' lucky, punk?"

Where do the rest of you stand on this highly controversial but important question?
