Although once in Japan I was in a bar with some other gaijin and a tv was on and it was a comedy show where they did this stunt where they created an entire 5K foot race just to trick this person into having thought he (or she? I can’t remember) won and while they were pumping their arms in the air in triumph they crossed over a breakaway cross way and they fell into a muddy pit and everyone gathered around pointing and laughing from above. It had me in stitches for the entire evening. I still crack up thinking about it. God what a gag.

Comedy is definitely very strongly tied to specific cultures, but in general I dislike similar kinds of comedy from other countries for the same reason. I think the issue is just that it's a relatively dominant form of comedy in america
