All that definition crap is fine & dandy but 90% of "punk rock" is absolute ****. Any & all 'good' punk like anything is imbedded w/ poppy hooks & melodies, that's why the Ramones were so brilliant. 1977 was such a legendary year cuz of the Ramones leave home & rocket to russia albums along w/ all the other classics. Skrewdriver's 1st lp was top notch & above & beyond the majority of the other u.k bands , & in the early/mid 80s they continued w/ great stuff ,wasn't til 87 that they got ****ty w/ the viking metal crap...but going back to the Ramones- what made them so great was that they drew so much from the likes of Brian Wilson, Jan Berry & Spector. No punk rock band in the past 4+ decades has come ANYWHERE near rocket to russia or Pleasant dreams, except for the Queers w/ don't back down .. phenomenal lp. There were a handful of great u.k bands like Blitz & Cock Sparrer...& a small handful of California bands like the Dickies, Surf Punks, Gears, X, Angry Samoans, Fear...but the hardcore era got lame real quick as did that anarchist-hippie trash , **** that... bubblegum is #1 , good music will Always be based on pop.
