I'm statistically part of that group but if I had acted differently that group would still exist minus one person. The difference that would make is negligible.
If my decision had a broader influence that would cause countless others to act differently as well then my decision would have more weight to it and I would be more mindful of said group. The reality is my decision had no such influence.
It's similar to voting. If I don't vote personally it really makes no difference. If everyone who thinks like me who didn't vote would all collectively vote then that would make a difference. But I don't have that kind of sway so my decision to vote or not to vote statistically has next to 0 impact on the election.
