It should be a public holiday. And why should the English be made to feel as though we shouldn't have a national identity, in the way Scotland, Wales and Ireland have?
When the Scots, Welsh and Irish go all 'nationalistic', it's called patriotism, but when the English do it...it's racism.

Here in Manchester (as with other places around England) St. George's Day isn't even celebrated. Manchester has a massive Irish community and everyone here celebrates St.Patrick's Day with enthusiasm (me included), but I'd like to see St.George's Day promoted and celebrated in the same way.

It's almost as if the English are embarrassed to show their national identity, unless it comes to Football.
