Okay but then a lot of people who were influences are going to get screwed. For example, take your guy in Africa who was recorded by some western artist and used as inspiration for whatever album. Say the western artist promotes the guy he recorded. Well, what about the guy who influenced the guy who was recorded? And what about the guy who influenced him, and so on? (And of course this is all pretending that anyone has a small number of influences rather than hundreds.)
