I can't speak for everyone, but I'm sure there are some who would reach the same conclusion if I mentioned that I liked listening to Radiohead. And for the record, I never stopped listening to Radiohead, the band just fell down my list of bands to namedrop, in conversion, for the reasons mentioned above.
I don't know, man. If find it really hard to combine the concept of being a true individualist and worrying about whether some people think you like some band because it's popular. The former is something I'd associate with not caring about what some people think about some really inconsequential, superficial bull**** while the latter sounds like an insecure teenager basing their identity on being non-conformist.
