It is kind of fair, if you compare these songs to what you expect from the Stones. They just moved on.
I mean, "Continental Drift" is some weird psychedelic African ****, "Terrifying" is basically the Stones making a better New Wave song than most new wave bands, "Slipping Away" is a quintessential Stones' ballad, and there's so much more on that album, as long as you care to listen.
There's a reason why the press and the audience felt like this is "THE" big come back for them back then.
