US news headlines of the week include these two stories:
This week, a 6-year-old first grader shot his teacher in Virginia with his mother's firearm. He is among the youngest school shooters in US history. This is the 17th shooting involving a student under the age of 10 at a school since 1970.
And in other news, Moderna is considering raising the price of its COVID-19 vaccine by over 400 percent—from $26 per dose to between $110 and $130 per dose.
Until now, the vaccines have been purchased by the government and offered to Americans for free. But now that the federal government is backing away from distributing the vaccines, their makers are moving to the commercial market—with price adjustments.
Moderna CEO said of the 400 percent price hike: "I would think this type of pricing is consistent with the value.”
This is why I generally steer clear of the news.
