The few I've seen (Burroughs and Genet esp) were really great. The one with Genet is unlike any other documentary: it's mostly a long interview and he's terminally ill, clearly insane and more ornery than ever... at some point he turns the tables on the interviewer and starts inciting the camera crew to revolt.
