Let's say the scenario is specifically that you have to choose whither a random person dies or a random dog dies. You do t get to see or learn anything about the person or the dog. You just have to choose whether they kill a random person or a random dog. So you know as soon as you make the choice, then they are going to go out and select either the random person or dog to die. But it won't be anybody you know or any dog you've met. It will be a stranger you know nothing about. If you refuse to choose, they just kill both.
