If the manager is also the sole songwriter for the group, then he would already have all of the rights to their songs so the other members would just be hired musicians. If one of the other members started the group before the manager/songwriter joined, and that member had the legal rights to the group name, then the songwriter/manager would have to buy the band name from that member if he wanted to continue using it. If I was that band member and owned the rights to the band name but didn't have any rights to any of the music royalties, and was offered that kind of money for the rights to the band name, I'd take that buyout in a heartbeat.
