But also like I do live in the capital of queer movements and am in a long term partnership with someone who is gender queer and my friend group/community is made up of all variations of queer/enby/trans/questioning folk so while I have never claimed to speak to the lived trans experience I am not exactly ignorant.

I gotcha, just a misunderstanding.
My default mood when taking about trans issues is to take this stuff seriously, it’s hard to help that after spending the past few years being exposed to and subjected to all manner of horrible transphobic verbal attacks. Not that you’re doing that, but any sort of trans discourse just puts me a bit on edge these days.
It’s not something I feel comfortable not taking seriously. Maybe that’s a flaw of mine.
