Maybe it's because I grew up in one, but I like songs slamming such towns. As Big Black say in the following tune "never anything to do in this town/but stare at each other and wait til we die":

And then there's Johnny Cougar, the pre-fame John Mellencamp, who didn't exactly praise the virtues of a "Small Town":
