Huge enough of a fan to not even know how to spell their name?

Sorry, I had to add that...lol!!!
Getting back to the question though, I'd have to say that Metallica was the easier band for people to like from the start, while Megadeth was more of the acquired taste, ya hear?Lookin' back now...and since St. Anger was released...I'd have to say without a doubt that that acquired taste (Megadeth) is clearly the better one!!!
Most likely in my order of greatness (for both bands):
1.Rust In Peace. - ...And Justice For All.
2.Youthanasia. - Master Of Puppets.
3.Countdown To Extinction. - Black.
4.Cryptic Writings. - Kill 'Em All.
5.The System Has Failed & Hidden Treasures. - Load & Reload.
So, Rust In Peace and ...And Justice For All are #1 I.M.O., which makes it hard for me to pick one over the other for being better, therefore they cancel each other out.Youthanasia compared to Master Of Puppets is another hard one, but as an album going all the way through, time and time again, I'd probally put Youthanasia only slightly over Master Of Puppets. They are both still as great as the other though.Comparing Countdown To Extinction to the Black album is another hard one, proving that both of these bands...atleast in their earlier years...were pretty much just as great as each other.I'd put Countdown on top though, mainly for the reason that it's not as repetitive to listen to and that it deserves credit for being one of the best metal albums ever.Black album might win in Karaoke though, but that's not my cup of tea...lol!!!

The 4th and 5th albums are also close in greatness, but the top 3 already mentioned lead me to believe that Megadeth was truly the better band.On top of that, Dave stayed true to his style and has always been a "class act" to the metal generation.
...MEGADETH WINS!!!
