Both agree and disagree. On many occassions, snap judgements based on appearance and maybe even generalisations can be important, such as judging that a stranger may try to mug or attack you and taking appropriate action. Judging strangers through lazy stereotyping is wrong, as is allowing your impression of new acquintances to be affected by anything other than the actions which they themselves perform... but being aware of relevant prior knowledge about any group of people can help you to anticipate certain things (sorry if that last statement is very vague!).

EDIT: Woops, I'm meant to write one.

I believe that: for every time I've been annoyed at somebody else, somebody else has been rude to me, somebody else has given me the impression that they're ignorant, lazy, etc. etc. there's probably been an equal number of times when other people have thought similar negative things about me.
