I do not consider U2 pop. I consider them alternative rock.

I am proud to say that I own a Depeche Mode and Wham album. And the Cars are unbelievable. 'My Best Friend's Girl' is probably my favorite song by them. Although I don't really consider them pop. But who knows. I wasn't around during their reign of the pop charts so I just classify them based on my interpretation their music.
OK, I agree with you as far as classification. But they were popular, and as we all know, that is what pop is. It makes no difference what the music genre is, if it's popular, it's pop music, so I agree with you as far as classification, but hell, it's still pop!
