I don't think musicbanter is as musically ignorant as you assume we are. You should refer to the top 100 list in the original post, those songs were radio hits as well. Hating radio and MTV has become so fashionable. To generalize an entire broadcast system or an entire website seems a bit naive. Regardless, I can think of AT LEAST ten members on this site that can come up with an equally good or even better list than the one Planet Rock voters produced.
