Either way, you'll have a hole in your wallet bigger than Rosie O'Donnell's appetite. The equipment I got cost me over a grand, and I'm still paying it off, along with 200 dollars car insurance, and if I don't get my act together in college, I'll have to drop out and start looking for some health insurance. I haven't had over 300 dollars in my account in over a year. And recording studios, I heard, cost even more than the equipment. Recording alone cost this one band my friend knew 2 grand, not including mass producing all the cd's and whatnot, cover art, and all that stuff.
Whatever happened to the good old days when all you had to do was perform in front of the King of England or France and he pretty much was the opinion of the people? All you needed to impress was one guy.
