I wouldn't say the guitar playing on The Song Remains The Same, Dazed and Confused or Stairway To Heaven are even remotely
typical of the blues genre. They were pretty damn innovative for their time.
Zeps influence and especially Jimmy Pages is far from superficial, Johnny Ramone even admitted to ripping off his upstroke/downstroke technique from Communication Breakdown, and EVH cited Heartbreaker as the inspiration for his hammer on/pull off heavy style of playing.
