Actually, It's less stupid. More than likely, I have more knowledge about smoking and what it does that a naive kid who is still enjoying life. I'm fully aware of the consequences of my actions and I'm willing to accept them; I'm not making a decision out of ignorance, whereas a kid, who probably doesn't understand the concept of cause and effect, will start smoking not knowing what it might do.
I believe decisions are only stupid if you;
1. Don't know the consequences
2. Are not willing to accept them
