This exactly how I write, and it helps me alot. Usually a poem-ish type thing or something. Don't worry about structure, or having things rhyme or anything like that. Just let it flow. Whatever comes out comes out. Keep writing! The more you write the more awesome stuff that comes out.
I don't know about anyone else, but listening to music before or during writing is very destracting, and things end up sounding like the songs your listening to. Or like
blackTshirt says, work with your band. It helps. If you have an idea on what you want the song to be about, or have part of a song written, maybe they can help with the rest. Both of the guitarists in my band write too, and it works out well, we work on each others stuff. If your forced, the best stuff won't come out. Hope this helps a little.
