Lansing and Flint/Birch Run have some pretty good screamo bands(also good grindcore bands). If you get the chance next year, attend Dirtfest in Birch Run. Many of the bands are pretty lame, but they also have some real gems. When you get more into Metro Detroit you have more of a metal scene.

Last week I passed by Birch Run on the way to Frankenmuth, Dirtfest is pretty tight, though an hour away or something.
