A lot of the albums mentioned should be heard even if your not a fan of that particular artist.
Albums like 'What's Going On?', 'Live at the Apollo', 'Exile On Main Street' and 'Are You Experienced?' should get a listen at least for their historical context.

A while back I went on a classic album spending spree, buying up CD's that were considered classics irrespective of whether or not I was into them.
I was in for a few pleasant surprises and it opened up loads of musical territory I wouldn't have otherwise explored.

To make you gasp with astonishment...never heard;
Prince - '1999'
Radiohead - 'OK Computer' (incredible, but true)
Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band - 'Trout Mask Replica'
Bruce Springsteen - 'Born in the U.S.A.' (not heard an album of his front to back yet)

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
There's shedloads of albums I'd love to hear and most of them considered classics.
