Okay decided on it.
11. Modest Mouse "The Lonesome Crowded West"
Straight out of some Washington shed Modest Mouse kicked onto the scene playing angsty, screaming, bizzare rhythmed, oddly chorded (bear with me here, I have to make up these words as I go along) indie-rock combining the bizarre pop instincts of Built to Spill with the ferocity of Pixies. As soon as the album kicks in with Isaac Brock howling "From the top of the ocean, yeah / From the bottom of the sky, goddamn" you know you're in for a treat.
Modest Mouse showcase everything in this album, their angry side to their more melodic side with lyrical beauty that often goes unnoticed. "I was in heaven, I was in hell / Believe in neither but fear them as well."
