Right now I'm reading The Holy Terrors by Jean Cocteau, The Rest Is Noise by Alex Ross, and Ned Rorem's Paris & New York Diaries, but the only book I'm really paying much attention to (i.e. have made it further than chapter one in) is Rorem's. Really, really excellent diary. It's sort of associated with *** culture these days, but I'd recommend it to anyone. Rorem is witty, talks a lot about music (he's an American composer, in case anyone didn't know), and crosses paths with pretty much every major musician, artist, and socialite in Paris and New York during the 50s.
