That was my gripe too, but it was later explained to me that that's what the book is like, it's focused more on the musings of the sheriff. So in the book, that part is less abrupt.
Not as good as I'd hoped it would be. I was much more moved by
The sea within by Alejandro Amenabar. Still, it's a good watch. Maybe it would have been a different experience had I known it's based on a real person. :\
