In the 60s & early 70s the BBC didn't keep everything they recorded because of the lack of space in the archives and because of the price of tape. Everything that was recorded was given a rating out of 1 to 5 usually based on commercial value & historical value, or if the production team thought they may need it again. Anything that ranked low would have just been wiped and the tape used again.

As Nick Drake was a pretty obscure artist during the time he was making music and not really commerically successful during that period it stands to reason the original tapes were wiped.

The Mp3 that you can download online is a fan recording of it and all it contains is the end of the first song , john peel talking for a bit and then the majority of the 3rd song. The 2nd & 4th songs of the session are totally missing still.
Someone may have a tape recording of the whole thing and give it back. That happened with the Damned. Their 3rd Peel session was missing from the BBC archives , the version of it that was included on their BBC Sessions album was remastered from a cassette copy owned by Rat Scabies.
