I personally think the whole Straight Edge lifestyle is style over substance and attention seeking. I admire people who lead a more purer life but to proclaim this and then label it smacks of a 'look at me' attitude.
Of course there is usually a need (especially early on in life) to ascribe to a particular sect of society but as you get older, you just try and be yourself; and indeed, usually become a better person as you don't need to live your life the ethos of any particular clique.
