You do have a point though, a good song is a good song, no matter how good your technical ability, or how long you've been playing.
I think it would be presumptuous to call a session musician a poor musician for lack of songwriting, because that's their job and we can't assume they're incapable songwriters just because they aren't necessarily required to write on a daily basis.

Aside from being masters at their respective instruments, I'd say most session musicians are great musicians in other aspects too - such as having a superb ear and sight reading etc.
