I know this is a very touchy subject but I'll put it out there anyway.
A friend recently said to me, "I can be friends with Black people but I would never date one." I tried to explain to her that her ability to eliminate an entire selection of dating prospects (sight unseen), based solely on race was a racist thing to say.
She tried to convince me that it wasn't racist, it was just her personal preference. I responded that since her reason for not dating particular individuals was based solely on race, that made it racist. So yes it was her personal preference but her preference was a racist one.
When I asked if she'd say that about her own race, she said "Of course not. White people come in all different types. It would be stupid for me to say that." She then paused for a moment, looked at me, then said "I still don't think what I said was racist."
What do you think?
