Poppy Of My Heart
Poppy of my heart,
Can you hear me?
Poppy of my heart,
What can I see?
The children walk in the light,
Their faces so warm and dear.
Girls lay in their summer coats,
And boys play in blase cheer.
Under calloused, fading skies,
The clouds part and sun beats down.
All the while, scorching the earth
Turning everything to brown.
Children are ablaze with smiles
But the world only frowns.
The sun, it warms my face,
But the world still looks brown.
