A new tool (called Genius, lolz) recently came out for iTunes that lets you assemble a new playlist (from various artists) with the click of a button. It uses music that sounds similar by comparing songs in your library to each other, and then making a playlist out of them.
So far, it's worked impeccably for me, but I've discerned that if you don't have enough of a certain genre it won't be able to compile as large a playlist. The idea behind it is similar to Pandora, Last.FM and other free radio websites, but everything you listen to is YOURS to begin with, which is awesome. The tool itself is free, too.
Here's an example playlist made by selecting "In The Name Of The Father" by Black Grape:
- Black Grape - In The Name Of The Father
- Kula Shaker - Hey Dude
- Pulp - Sorted for E's and Wizz
- Ian Brown - Dolphins Were Monkeys
- Suede - Animal Nitrate
- The Stone Roses - Ten Story Love Song
- James - She's a Star
- Eels - Susan's House
- Mansun - Wide Open Space
- Blur - The Universal
- The Jesus and Mary Chain - April Skies
- Primal Scream - Nitty Gritty
- The Stone Roses - Elephant Stone
- Black Grape - Kelly's Heroes
- New Order - Ruined in a Day
- Soft Cell - Bedsitter
- Ian Brown - Keep What Ya Got
- Primal Scream - Swastika Eyes
- Happy Mondays - Loose Fit
- The Charlatans - Just When You Think Things Are Over
- Kula Shaker - Govinda
- Echo and the Bunnymen - Nothing Lasts Forever
- Oasis - Who Feels Love?
- James - Born of Frustration
- Black Grape - Submarine
I'm having so much fun with this. I can see using this for parties all the time.
