so it's about a singer but you're hung up on the guitar bit?
the part in question is a simple melody played on the G string over a droning open D string. the melody repeats itself but the 4th time the melody moves up to the 5th fret instead of dropping back to the open string. at that point the guitar player is playing a fretted C over and open D. it's close enough to an octave to still sound clearly dissonant while increasing the tension in the passage before getting heavy again.
it's also a really easy part to play. the kind of thing a beginner could pick up in minutes.
