Metallica is one of the defining bands in not just metal history, but music history. Their first 4 albums are defining thrash metal albums. The Black Album is solid hard rock. Load And Reload are almost blues rock at some points. St. Anger is one of the jokes in the music world, almost universally agreed upon (although not by myself) as one of the worst produced and worst sounding albums in the last decade. And yet the band's still going, and their latest release isn't half bad. And due to this growth and diversity in their sound, I can usually find a Metallica song to jam along to no matter what mood I'm in. If I can't handle Whiplash at the moment, fine, I can pop in Bleeding Me. If I'm ready to kill myself, Fade To Black is the right song
