Hey, man ~ ever heard about "the rest of the world"??? Because, amazingly enough, THEY watch what happens to the 'super powers,' and wonder of wonders, act accordingly.
When THEY start worrying about our economy? We, as ordinary people, better DAMNED SURE try to figure out everything we can, because we ARE just peons/pawns in a much bigger game.
