I completely disagree. This has not been a particularly hot year for hip hop at all. Records have been overly long and laboured, often half constructed of pointless filler. Most albums I've heard (that includes about 85% of the albums mentioned in this thread) have for the most part been boring and have just played it safe, ending up not necessarily bad, but just unspectacular and mediocre.

I feel one of the best albums that has come out was P's HNIC pt.2, and even that wasn't particularly great on the whole. It just had some superb mixing by The Alchemist (who is clearly the most talented producer in the game).

I'm both amazed, baffled and quite sad that anybody could genuinely consider 2008 to be a great year for hip-hop. Hell, it hasn't really been a particularly fantastic year for any genre of music that I listen to. Wake up, smell the coffee dudes. Last time hip-hop had a great year was 2006.
