I think a lot of the 80's hate comes from the fact that most of the great music was fairly obscure. With the 60's, most people will agree that the best bands also happened to be some of the biggest.

Honestly, though, I really don't get the whole "were the 90's better than the 80's" thing. Decades are an arbitrary measure of time. Did music suddenly start to get "better" when January 1, 1990 rolled around? Did people stop making good music on December 31, 1979?
