Echo & The Bunnymen- Heaven Up Here (1981)

Echo & The Bunnymen are quite simply one of Britains finest bands yet they always seemed to be lost amidst The Smiths hero worship. Their second album Heaven up Here is a classic from start to finish. They share that same post punk asthetic that Joy Division employed but E&TB always seemed to wrap their angst up in positive vibes. From the fantastic almost rock-like production to Will Sergeants hugely underated spiky angular guitar work, HUH soars and proved that you can still make intelligent, well performed music AND still imbue it with character and originality.

I guess another plaudit that you can lay at it's feet is that it does'nt sound dated and that is the mark of a great album. Particular faves: Over The Wall and Turqouise Days.
