I've had 5 dogs. All they ever wanted was treats and rubs on the belly. I don't doubt for a second that if I died and there was no one to feed it, a dog would have no qualms about eating MY corpse. Dogs are just fun to have around, they don't love you or anything.
EDIT: SR, he doesn't hide because he's ashamed, he's afraid. Fear is the only emotion animals can feel.
