Tell that to KC's 21st Century Schizoid Man and Soft Machine's "Facelift". Pretty much the forerunning tracks of industrial and heavy metal right there, which in turn caused all sorts of ripples in other genres at the same time. And don't even get me started on Jimi Hendrix...

Also, pray tell, how many caliber bands which are still actively producing music and touring today cite The Beatles as a MAIN influence anyway?
