Foo Fighters have a couple good songs but I agree overall they're kind of average. Probot, on the other hand, is amazing and that's even more of a solo Dave Grohl project than Foo Fighters. Also, his drum work on Queens of the Stone Age's
Songs for the Deaf, Killing Joke's 2003 self-titled album, and Nine Inch Nails
With Teeth was all pretty impressive.
