Post Trends in video (funny youtube videos for songs)

As a performer and consumer, I find it pretty interesting that it's very hard to get people to pass around links to songs, but it's now a REALLY common pasttime to pass around amusing videos.

So, like, my band has gotten many many many more hits for this video I whipped up in an afternoon using some of my comedy-writing chops than the song ever did on its own, despite the song having taken much much more time to produce than the video, and honestly, being much much better than the video itself:

YouTube - "Love Is the Problem" by New People, 12/7/08

So is this a great new form for distributing music, or a sign of the tone-deafness of our culture?
