For toeandno:
Otis Redding - Dock Of The Bay (1968)
The quintessential album is often quoted as 'Otis Sings The Blues' which is more indicative of his music. Although his music is often classified as Soul, there is a deep undercurrent of Blues on many tracks on here (Open The Door). However this gives the album an uneven tone. The classic '(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay' is an obvious highlight and was recorded only 3 days before his death in a plane crash, 'Don't Mess With Cupid' is a classic toe tapping Soul workout yet 'The Glory Of Love' is one of the weakest tracks and seems like filler.
Who knows what heights he could have scaled if he had lived longer but unfortunately this album is not the best showcase for Redding. However there are some gems tucked away as to warrant another listen.
