As my mum would say, nobody's better they're just
different; but she's not here and Pixies took the money, did the reunion tour, did the 'best of', did the DVD and then f*cked off so f*ck them
Granted Cobain's love of the Pixies is well-documented but I could never hear the similarity outside of the quiet/loud dynamic which was surely common at the time anyway? How hard would it be to play in a 4-piece rock band and not let your influences (predominantly 4-piece rock bands) bleed through into the songs? Kurt Cobain had brilliant taste in music which was integral to Nirvana being brilliant IMO, had love for classic metal as well as punk and indie.
One of those (up til that point) rare cases of having the indie credentials but also the pop hooks to make major bucks. Course 'indie' and 'Nirvana-esque' are just marketing demographics now but whatever.
