I thought Rodriguez's take on the genre was too by the numbers to make it memorable (I also don't share others' enthusiasm for trash). Death proof on the other hand is vintage Tarantino; original, witty, and beyond everything, cool, something Rodriguez sorely lacks in all his films. In short, I loved Death proof, but I love all Tarantino flicks.
